Wonderful Hotel, people and incredible views. We arrived at Skala Hotel having not got off to the best of starts to a holiday, we had not realized that Ios is a small Island North of Santorini rather than on the island itself! However, it turned out to be a fantastic “mistake” to make, I probably wouldn’t have bothered to book had I realized you needed a ferry to get there and gone somewhere more direct, but, that’s what makes Ios so very special, especially off season, you have to make a little effort to get there but the result is so very worth it! Skala is owned and ran by Kyriacos and his family, a more pleasant, helpful, courteous and hard-working family you would struggle to find. Nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was excellent with a fantastic view to take in whilst eating. The room was clean, spacious with incredible views of the town below, sunrise and sunset here is an unforgettably beautiful experience. The rooms were cleaned daily, clean towels daily and bedding changed every other day, the hotel itself appears to mimic a Greek street in terms of layout, each room has their own area to sit and relax outside, the layout gives a very communal feel with the other guests. Whilst rated as only two stars on LoveHolidays (with whom we booked) it was apparent from some other guests staying with us who clearly had the means to stay wherever they chose that Skala is very special and well worth seeking out especially given the prices. Skala isn’t a huge 5 star Hotel complex with staff seeing to your every desire, it isn’t right next to the beach, its on a very steep hill also despite this, you’ll struggle to find a better view in Greece never mind on Ios, friendlier owners and staff. Whilst we stumbled upon Skala almost by accident, it is no accident that we plan to return many more times to this exquisite place.
